© Google MapsAfter 11 years in business, New York City's best-known Bay Area sports bar, Finnerty's, is permanently closing.
Located in Manhattan's East Village, Finnerty's was beloved for offering up watch parties for 49ers, Giants, Warriors, Sharks and Pac-12 games. (This very writer once took in a USC-UCLA game at Finnerty's with a bunch of friends and a few kegs of beer.)
At the start of the pandemic, Finnerty's shut down, like all New York City bars. Owners Dieter Seelig and Brian Stapleton say they haven't been able to recover since then, and ran into issues with their landlord along the way.
A video released on Monday by Seelig and Stapleton was actually prerecorded in October, when their landlord had already changed the locks on the bar so they could no longer enter it.
'Despite our best efforts, we've not been able to come to terms with the landlord to have a future at our current space,' Stapleton said. 'We just weren't able to get there.'
Added Seelig: 'Obviously we know that means that right now, there's no place in New York for Bay Area fans, and believe me, that's eating away at us. It's not something I like to think about. I always thought there'd be a Finnerty's in New York.'
In their goodbye video, the two owners rehashed some of their favorite experiences, like when the Giants brought their World Series trophy to the bar. There's also a lovely montage of Finnerty's attendees celebrating the many Bay Area championship moments from the last decade. Watch the full thing below:

The Finnerty's Twitter account has been reweeting patrons' favorite memories, and they're worth a read if you've visited before and want to take a trip down memory lane. Also sounds like the bar's online merchandise store will relaunch soon, so keep an eye out for that.
